About the work

Artist Karin Louise Title Back to my Roots Back 2026 90 x 90 cm oil on canvas to My Roots explores the tension between ancestral memory and contemporary belonging. Living in Australia, I often reflect on what it means to carry the stories, rituals and landscapes of my Irish heritage while finding connection in another place. Set within the symbolic landscape of pre-Christian Ireland, the painting follows a woman journeying towards her ancestors, guided by the stag through a threshold between past and present. The work reflects on displacement not as the loss of home, but as the lifelong search to reconcile inherited histories with the places we come to love, reminding us that identity is continually shaped through movement, memory and place.
